Super Seedz and Decadent Trail Mix - The Fit Cookie

Have you ever heard of Super Seedz? They make some truly awesome pumpkin seed snacks! If you have kids with nut allergies, then finding seeds that aren’t processed in a facility with nuts can be challenging. Finding a company that adheres to good allergy practices is a great find!

Super Seedz sent me 8 bags (1 of each flavor) of their pumpkin seeds in exchange for a review. I decided to have some fun with it and make a recipe!

Super Seedz are:

  • Gluten free
  • Peanut and tree nut free
  • Egg free
  • Dairy free
  • Soy free (except for the Curious Curry flavor)
  • Fish and Shellfish free

Homemade trail mix is a great snack for kids with food allergies: you can mix and match to create your own allergy-friendly treat without too much hassle! Plus it’s more affordable than store-bought trail mix and much safer, too. Play around with flavors, too. Try using other kinds of dried fruit and other flavors of pumpkin seeds. The Super Seedz Coco Joe flavor is one of my favorites!

Now before someone gets hung up on the fact that this recipe is labeled “nut-free”, this recipe is nut-free besides the coconut. Yes, the FDA requires coconut to be labeled as a tree nut on packaged goods, but botanically speaking coconut is not a nut at all – it’s a fruit.

Cross reactions between coconut and tree nuts are rare, but if you do happen to have coconut allergies, simply replace the coconut flakes with some other safe food, such as allergy-friendly cereal, more dried fruit, or more pumpkin seeds.

If you want to take these on a hike or travel with them, melting chocolate chips might cause a mess. You can easily replace the chocolate chips with the Super Seedz Coco Joe pumpkin seeds (chocolate and coffee – love that combo!!) for some chocolatey taste without worrying about a chocolate mess in the summer heat.

    • I love simple recipes too! I find that I tend to avoid complicated recipes these days (unless it’s a weekend baking day) so I try to make my recipes simple to make 🙂
