Hooray, my first Recipe ReDux recipe! And let me tell you this was a tough one: edible flowers. had a hard time finding what I wanted around my town. I even traveled out of town and couldn’t find what I was looking for! I had dreams of lavender (with lemonade or shortbread), but I couldn’t seem to locate any. But no worries! Tea to the rescue 🙂
My sister introduced me to the Tulsi Sweet Rose tea not too long ago and I promptly ordered a couple boxes of my own. If you love the smell of roses, this tea is for you – it’s amazing! This tea actually has several different types of flowers in it: rose petals, chamomile flowers, and several varieties of tulsi (holy basil) flowers.

So this is a mock bubble tea – there are no giant tapioca pearls (boba) in this drink, mostly because I couldn’t find them around here either! I live in a small town without too many exotic food choices, I make do! Frozen blueberries give the same look to your drink and they keep your drink cold, and and they are fun to eat, too.

But of course the texture will not be the same as a traditional bubble tea, and the blueberries mostly float instead of sink to the bottom. I have yet to try a real bubble tea! Sad, I know, but I will have to special order some boba to make it sometime.

Get creative with this mock bubble tea by trying other kinds of teas, like herbal fruit teas or earl grey. Or you can experiment with other frozen berries – raspberries would be yummy, too! If you have access to the big tapioca pearls usually used in bubble teas, make it with them and let me know what you think of the flower flavored bubble tea 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 bags of Tulsi Sweet Rose tea
  • ¼ cup hot water
  • ¼ cup ice
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk
  • ½ cup frozen blueberries

Instructions

  • Brew the Sweet Rose tea by pouring 1/4 cup hot water over 1 or 2 teabags and let it steep for several minutes. You will want this tea brewed strong!
  • Once it has brewed, stir in 1/4 cup ice cubes into the tea to chill it. The ice cubes should melt as it cools the tea so you will then have 1/2 cup cold Sweet Rose tea.
  • Stir in the almond milk and add blueberries.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

The Tulsi Sweet Rose tea has stevia leaf in it so it is a bit sweet on it's own, but if you want more sweetness you can stir in some stevia or maple syrup.

  1. Hi! Lovely creativity, thank you.
Helped me work out my solution – a sweet brown time rice, using golden syrup as the sweetener, and tapioca or sago which I can get from the Asian grocer just across town.

I’m not sure how the tea will go with any ‘milk’; I’d use rice or cashew milks if brave enough. But I usually save my meagre rice milk allowance for my 1 good coffee each day 😉

  2. That is so cute. I like the way you used blueberries as your ‘bubbles’. I’m sure that they added heaps more flavour too!

  3. I had the same problem! I couldn’t find anything flowery in my town, although to be fair, if I weren’t locking myself in a basement study dungeon for 16 hours a day, I might have found something. 😡 I threw fruits in mine too, but mostly because I was incompetent with technology (could not get the ice to come out of the fridge ;_; ). Oops.

Annnyway! Welcome to Recipe ReDux! :] This looks awesome and I think I’m going to have to try to find that tea sometime. I love rose tea/miss bubble tea!

    • I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t find the lavender since I noticed that several others had used that as well! It worked out in the end – it made me get really creative with this one!

  5. First off, welcome to ReDux! This was one of our more challenging themes for sure but so glad you were up for the challenge. Plus I love your creativity with the “mock” bubble tea – I’m gonna do the same.

  6. Ha! I’ll bet my small town is about as small as your small town! I forage for flowers (like in my dandelion jelly posted a month ago!) or use tea for floral flavors too. BUT I LOVE your idea of using blueberries for bubble tapioca….because you can’t forage for tapioca! (:

    • Haha, yes, too bad I can’t forage for some of those ingredients! I could get over to my Mom’s garden and poke around a bit to find some edible flowers, though…
