I don’t know about you, but sometimes when our family gets busy, we end up cooking the same meals. Over and over. We try to branch out but at times busy-ness gets the best of me and our cooking gets boring. Last week, I got to try out HelloFresh and it got me thinking about ways to break free from that cooking boredom that we find ourselves in so often. After all, cooking should be something we look forward to and enjoy!

With school in full swing and busier fall schedules, breaking free from the same meals can be tough. But with a little planning ahead, it’s possible! If you’re itching to try some new dishes and recipes, here are 5 ways to escape cooking boredom and rock your kitchen again!

1. Invest in new cookbooks or cooking magazines

I’m giving you permission to go shopping! 😉 If you already have a bunch of cookbooks, take some time to go through them and get rid of the older ones you aren’t excited about anymore and find some new ones with recipes you look forward to making. This can add a bit of freshness to your cooking routine, and you might find some new favorites!

Personally, I love the idea of cooking magazines more since they are updated every month so everything is seasonal and current. The wonderful thing about cookbooks and magazines is that you can find something for everyone, no matter your diet or lifestyle.

2. Explore new recipe blogs

This one is close to my heart (obviously!). I have some amazing blogging friends that are recipe powerhouses. There is always something new and fresh on their blogs! I am always amazed by these blogger’s creativity, and their recipes are healthy and simple.

Just like cookbooks and magazines, you can find some really niche recipes if you have peculiar tastes or are on a special diet. In fact, recipe blogs are even more niche than books and magazines since there are so many of them (estimates show over 200 million blogs out there!).

3. Learn some new cooking techniques

This one is a fun one if you’re adventurous and have a little time to spare: find some new cooking techniques and give them a try! I got my HelloFresh box and learned how to make risotto, which was a new experience for me! I usually don’t use those lengthier cooking methods so I took a little time to follow the recipe and learned a new cooking technique.

A good way to try this out if it’s available to you is by taking a cooking class or two. There are some well-known companies like Sur La Table that offer cooking classes in their stores. Even privately owned kitchen stores will often have cooking classes to share cooking techniques with new or unique kitchen tools, too.

4. Experiment with new ingredients each week…

Or at least a couple times a month. Have you tried any new foods lately that get you excited to cook? Variety is the spice of life, and there is an enormous variety of unique foods to try. If you’re short on cash, you can save some money by simply trying out some new spices or spice blends or marinades.

Explore your grocery store on your next shopping trip to find some new foods or spices you’re curious to try, and do a little research on how to use them in a creative new dish.
