Happy Earth Day! Today is Earth Day and for our family that means we are looking forward to warmer spring days so we can spend time outside in the sunshine and work on some fun DIY garden projects! It is still snowy on and off here – check out the snow drift by our front deck!
The cold and snow has us longing for the outdoors so we can dig in to some Spring projects! According to regional zoning map at The Home Depot Garden Club, our last frost is usually May 15th, so we have a while to go before we can plant anything. But we are getting prepared for warmer weather with our Home Depot DIY projects! We chose 3 kid-friendly and Earth Day-inspired projects that we will be tackling in the coming weeks:
For the birdhouse, we will be using a Home Depot project kit that will be a great project for Gabe and Nyah to work on! Building and painting a birdhouse will be a perfect way for our kids to get creative! Our Home Depot store did not have the birdhouse kit in stock, so I went online and ordered 2 kits (one for each of our children). Ordering them online was super easy, plus they offer free shipping if you send the item directly to your local Home Depot store!
The compost bin will be a really educational project to complete. Composting is a perfect way to add richness and nutrients to the soil while reusing and recycling plant-based food scraps. This is an all-around science project: building a compost bin is a great way to teach basic construction skills, reusing/recycling, and chemistry. We have never had a compost bin, so this will be a great addition to our yard and garden.
We are all excited to participate in the next kids hands-on workshop at our Home Depot! The Kid’s Workshops are free and are held the 1st Saturday of each month at every Home Depot location. There are themed hands-on projects for kids to make and keep, plus they get to take home an apron and other goodies. Paint and materials are all provided, so you can bring your kids and have a blast. Check out The Home Depot’s upcoming workshops and get registered or just pop in and have fun.Image from TheHomeDepot.com
Now that we have our project assignments, that means…it’s time to go shopping!
I love going to our Home Depot store! Even though it’s cold right now, our Home Depot Garden Center is full of green things! I love walking through the Home Depot and seeing the great plants. My brain needs to see green things when everything is covered in snow 🙂
Want to dress up your outdoor living area? The Home Depot has some beautiful patio furniture sets. I love this one!
