Still want to stay active while on vacation or traveling? Here are two great workouts you can do at your hotel: a Tabata vacation workout and a hotel gym workout

Time for more vacation stuff! I mentioned in the first post that I had a bunch of photos and some good things to share from our trip to Mexico so I was sharing everything in several posts. Since we stayed pretty active on vacation and I created a couple vacation workouts while we were there, I wanted to share those today!

Here’s what I did while on vacation:

  • Saturday: hotel gym workout (hotel in Denver)
  • Monday: walked about 4 miles (to Walmart and back with some detours)
  • Tuesday: 20 min Tabata workout + walk 2.7 miles (to Mega & back)
  • Thursday: 2.7 mile walk to Mega & back
  • Saturday: 33 min walk/run (2.5 mi) at hotel in Fort Collins

All in all a decently active week considering I was on vacation. Sunday and Friday were almost entirely solid traveling (planes, shuttles, etc) so we didn’t do too much those days. I am convinced that airports need to keep treadmills, bikes, etc, at various places in airports so people can stay active while waiting for their flights. I would love that!

Wednesday we did the city tour and sat a lot in the boat and shuttle so not a lot of activity that day either. I didn’t do anything super intense, which was fine because of the heat and humidity, but we tried to do something active most days when we could.

We flew out of Denver so we drove down to Denver (5 hour drive). Here’s the workout I did at the hotel gym in Denver:

Unfortunately the gym at our resort in Mexico was a little scary so we didn’t use it at all. There was plenty of equipment but some of it seemed outdated and there was no ventilation and the air conditioning wasn’t working. The room was hot, stuffy, and smelly. No thanks!

There was a nice gym just down the street a bit and I wanted to go try some classes there. I sent an email to them through the contact page on their website asking about day passes and pricing but they never responded…#fail. They missed out on a blogging customer!

On Tuesday, Zach and I did a Tabata workout in our hotel room. Here’s the workout we did:

The first round was a bit of a warm-up round so I performed the first round with lighter effort and low impact. After the first round I added jump squats and jump lunges to increase the intensity.

I used my Tabata music/timer from Workout Muse and it was 20 minutes total with 1 minute rests in between. Great workout!

For the dips we used a chair or coffee table, but if you don’t have a sturdy piece of furniture for dips you can do tricep pushups instead. This was a nice, equipment-free 20-minute workout that was very doable.

We walked a lot while we were in Mexico. On Monday we walked to Wal-mart by taking the path through the estuary park to downtown. That day we walked about 4-5 miles and it was hot! The estuary would be a nice place to run is you like running in sand.

We carried a lot of water and drank tons of it!

Walking to Mega from our hotel. It was about a 2.75-3 mile walk roundtrip

Almost to Mega (the big building on the left). If you are in San Jose del Cabo, Mega is a better choice than Walmart here for shopping and groceries. It’s closer to the hotels and resorts, and it’s much bigger with more selection. There is also a Starbucks right next to it if you are looking for some non-dairy lattes. The walk to Mega is nice, a fun way to see some of the other shops, resorts, and apartments along the way.

ON our walk back from Mega on Thursday we went in to look at the big statues at the Grand Mayan resort. They were still working on the resort. It was awesome!
