If you’re craving a taste of tropical fruits and sunshine, make this sweet and tangy tropical fruit smoothie that’s full of vitamins and potassium.

Our tropical smoothie is dairy free and it’s like drinking a glass of liquid sunshine and summer! It’s grain free, too, and has no added sugars.

This smoothie is perfect for a summer treat, but it’s also amazing in the winter when you need a pick-me-up with some bright colors and fresh fruit during winter days.

Why we love this smoothie

This tropical fruit smoothie comes together quickly and has no dairy, grains, or added sugars. The fresh fruit and coconut water are great sources of vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium (among many other nutrients), so it also makes a great after workout smoothie.

You can make this a thick and spoonable smoothie bowl easily by using frozen fruit vs fresh cut fruit, or by adding a scoop of your favorite dairy free vanilla protein powder for some extra protein.

How to make our tropical smoothie

Just add the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth, easy peasy!

A Ninja blender filled with chopped pineapple and banana sits on a countertop, ready to blend into a delicious tropical smoothie.

If you love making super thick frozen fruit smoothies, I recomend the Ninja TWISTi blender we use that’s designed for handling frozen fruit (it’s the one in the photo above).

Be warned, this machine is LOUD (like a jet engine, no joke), but it works really well for frozen fruit and the lid has built-in arms/twist tamper for keeping things moving. If you can handle the noise level, it’s a great machine for frozen fruit smoothies.

How to make this if you can’t have fresh pineapple

Some people end up with tongue tingling or even mouth pain from eating fresh pineapple thanks to the acidity and the enzyme bromelain.

A thick yellow tropical smoothie is being poured from a blender into a wavy glass with a clear straw, set on a terrazzo board.

If you find that you can’t have fresh pinepple, you can try using canned pineapple that’s been drained in this recipe instead. Canned pineapple has been cooked, so it deactivates much of the bromelain in the pineapple, as well as reducing acidity, making canned pineapple easier to eat for some people.

You can also swap the pineapple for a different fruit, such as diced golden kiwi. Our original recipe actually used golden kiwi, but since that is harder to find than pineapple, I switched it to pineapple.

  1. This sounds like the easiest getaway possible. With the freezing rain we are having today…thinking of somewhere warm and sunny is a treat. Coconut milk and fruit is always the perfect match.
