Looking for a fresh take on endurance fuel? Check out Omnibar, a savory whole-food bar that is nutritionally balanced and created in Montana
Looking for a innovative snack bar for your active adventures? Last month I got the chance to review some great new fuel bars called Omnibar (as in omnivore). Omnibars are not your ordinary fuel bar, however: they are beef based and have savory flavors like Chipotle Barbecue. Pretty cool!!
Omnibar was dreamed up and created in Big Sky country (Montana) which is also my home state. I love supporting local and semi-local health and fitness companies, and Omnibar is a smart choice if you are conscientious about what you put in your body. Omnibar is made of natural and whole-food ingredients:
- Grass-fed Angus/Hereford beef from Montana
- Sweet potato
- Flax seed
- Dried fruit
- Nuts (almonds or peanuts)
The great folks at Omnibar sent us their sample box and some leather winter-weight work gloves, so we dug in and tried out the 4 savory flavors: Chipotle Barbecue, Roasted Peanut, Cranberry Rosemary, and Mango Curry.
You may notice there are no Chipotle Barbecue bars in my photo above: it was my favorite flavor and they went fast!
Omnibar is a great change of pace from typical sweet energy bars so you don’t feel like you’re eating a candy bar. I also love that these bars are whole-food and beef-based so they are a great source of protein and complex carbohydrates for people with allergies to whey, egg, or soy.
The nutrients are nicely balanced if you’re watching your macros: the Roasted Peanut bar has 210 calories, 11 grams fat, 20 grams carbohydrates (with 3 grams fiber), and 10 grams of protein.
A note: Omnibars have oats in them, but they are not specifically labeled as gluten-free in the ingredient list or the package. I was told that these bars do not contain gluten, but are made in a facility with products containing gluten. If you have celiac disease or are very sensitive to gluten, contact the Omnibar company directly about their gluten/allergen statement.
My verdict: I love Omnibars! My favorite flavors are Cranberry Rosemary and Chipotle Barbecue. The texture was great: a bit like pemmican but with the sweet potato and flax mixed with it. I gave some to a couple of friends to try and they liked them too.
My husband wasn’t a fan of the Omnibars – I don’t think he liked the flavor. But I would recommend giving Omnibar a try! Get a sample pack and try all the flavors and find your favorite 🙂
