Do you take the time for self care? If not, then it should become a priority! Here’s a little insight into my personal self-care routine and why it’s important to me
Hey friends, how is your fall going so far? Things have been going great here, except that I’ve been in physical therapy several times a week for the past few months for a couple different things. Being in physical therapy for the past few months has really got me thinking about self-care these days and how important it is for active people.
It’s too easy to get busy and put off those things we know we should do for our bodies and minds.
I realized that one of the reasons I am visiting the PT so much now is that I had been putting off my self-care routine since I was getting busier with other things. Taking care of ourselves is so important, especially for fitness professionals. Too often we put our own fitness goals and self-care on the back burner to teach fitness classes, and that can quickly lead to injury and burnout.
Sometimes I do great at self-care, but sometimes I get busy and slack off, then I end up in physical therapy for aches and pains. It comes down to discipline and creating a habit to do these things daily for myself. I need to remember that my body and my mind need self-care: it is essential and I should not skip it.
My body doesn’t recover from intense exercise very well, so for me, self-care includes reducing intensity if needed, physical therapy and massage, foam rolling daily, deeper stretching daily (outside of my yoga classes), drinking plenty of water, and taking my supplements each day.
Since I have quite a few dietary restrictions, it’s important for me to make sure that I’m taking my daily supplements. My Vitamin D levels are super low, so I need to take that every day, along with calcium, magnesium, electrolytes, amino acids, and probiotics, and then some various anti-inflammatory supplements. Add my medication and that’s a lot of pills!
Honestly, swallowing pills gets old fast. That’s usually the reason I end up slacking off on my supplements. Taking supplements doesn’t have to be awful, though: I’ve been trying out the SmartPants Adult Probiotic Complete gummy supplements and I love them!
Gummy vitamins and probiotics are a great way to get my supplements without adding more pills to my stack. I actually look forward to taking my probiotics each day, so I don’t forget them and I won’t put it off.
The SmartyPants Adult Probiotic Complete comes in two different flavors: Blueberry and Lemon Creme. I got a bottle of the Lemon Creme flavor and it’s delicious! It tastes like a lemon poppyseed muffin or a lemon square – so good!
If you need a good probiotic, then these are a good one to try: the SmartyPants probiotic gummies deliver 7x more CFUs than any other probiotic gummy. You get 7 billion CFUs of strains DE111® and IS2 which have 99% survivability through stomach acid so it gets to your large intestine where it needs to be. Plus, these have Wellmune® probiotic immune support*.
