Instead of indulging in that peanut butter cup, get some protein and nourish your body with this Chocolate SunButter Cup Smoothie!
Some days you just need a peanut butter cup!
Ah the lovely peanut butter cup: that wonderful chocolate and peanut butter gooeyness that hits the spot every time. It is one of my al-time favorite treats! I am a sucker for anything chocolate peanut butter. But those lovely little morsels won’t love me back!
Most of the time those peanut butter cups are loaded with processed stuff and food allergens (for me, that includes dairy and soy) that guarantee a stomach ache. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Larabars are a great sub, too! And since my kids both have peanut allergies, I don’t keep peanut butter around the house.
Because of my kiddos peanut allergies, we keep SunButter around the house. My daughter is also allergic to tree nuts to I really watch the other nut products around the house. Since the only nut/seed butter we have had on hand for a while has been SunButter these days, it was a perfect replacement for peanut butter in my Chocolate SunButter Cup Smoothie.
SunButter doesn’t taste too bad, and it’s a nice change of pace from other nut butters if you don’t mind sunflower seeds. It can turn some baked goods green, though, so watch out for that 😉
Here is the sacha inchi powder I used in this recipe. If you have nut allergies, you do need to be aware that this particular brand is manufactured in a facility with nuts. It has an interesting flavor (akin to pea protein) but it is a wonderful grain-free alternative to other non-dairy protein powders out there.
This Chocolate SunButter Cup Smoothie makes a great meal replacement shake since it has plenty of calories, fats, carbs, and proteins in this smoothie! Just add some fruit and you’re set for a balanced meal on the go. Or you can have it for a healthy evening treat instead of that peanut butter cup 😉
NOTE: Sacha inchi is also called the inca peanut. It is not, however, a peanut or tree nut, but rather a seed. Sacha inchi is well tolerated, but if you have seed allergies then try sacha inchi with caution
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened almondmilk
- 3 Tablespoons sacha inchi powder
- 1 to 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 Tablespoons SunButter depending on how rich you want your shake
- Vanilla cream Stevia to taste

How can you have almond milk. Aren’t almonds tree nuts? I’m trying to figure out my allergies and have been avoiding tree nuts, which included almond milk which I love.
Hi Christine, I am not allergic to tree nuts or almonds, but my daughter is. I regularly drink almond/coconut milk. My son has peanut allergies so we don’t use peanut butter in our house, so I made this with SunButter. You can always make this with rice milk, hemp milk, or oat milk to make it completely nut free.
Yummy! This looks so good! I love sunbutter, I will have to try it sometime 🙂
Thanks Annmarie!
