How to make dairy free feta dip
It’s so easy to make this feta cheese dip, however for the best texture the ingredients need to be added in a particular order. Here are the steps for making this dairy free dip (the full recipe card is at the end of the post):
- Add the dairy free cream cheese to a large bowl and using a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy (this part must be done first!).
- Beat in the feta cheese crumbles, the chives, and the spices.
- Add half the mayo and beat in, then beat in the other half of the mayo. The dip will be somewhat lumpy looking due to the feta cheese crumbles.
- Serve immediately or chill until ready to serve (this will thicken up a bit as it chills).
Options for dairy free feta cheese
There are now several brands of dairy free feta cheese on the market today! Here are a few of the brands that are currently available:
- Violife feta cheese: my favorite dairy free feta cheese! It’s best for cold dishes since it does not cook well (it gets pretty liquidy when cooked).
- Daiya feta cheese: this one is pretty good, I prefer the Violife personally, but the Daiya one holds up better to cooking if you want to make a dairy free feta pasta.
- Follow Your Heart: I haven’t tried this one yet, but it’s pre-crumbled so it’s easy to use.
- Treeline vegan goat-style cheese: I haven’t tried this one yet, so I’m not sure how good it tastes or if it would crumble well for this recipe.
- Esti plant based feta
We haven’t tried the Follow Your Heart feta cheese yet, so we don’t know how it would taste, but it would still work in this recipe if you love it!
This recipe uses the feta crumbles, so it’s not a whipped feta dip (we love it this way). If you want a smoother dip, make sure to use smaller feta crumbles to make feta crumbles less noticeable in the dip.

This dip can be served right away or can be chilled first. If you choose to chill this recipe, it will firm up in the fridge, so it will be thicker once it chills for a few hours or overnight.
If you want this dip a little less thick once you’ve chilled it, you can add a bit more mayo to it before serving.
The easiest way to crumble feta cheese
Dairy free feta cheese is a little bit harder to crumble than regular feta cheese since it’s more moist and doesn’t crumble quite as easily.
We figured out a quick way to crumble dairy free feta (and regular feta) without getting your hands dirty: use a pastry cutter! This makes it easy and quick to crumble feta cheese whether you’re using regular or dairy free feta.
I posted a video of this feta cheese hack on our Facebook Reels. This would probably work great with a potato masher as well!

How to make this feta dip paleo
Our dairy free feta dip is already fairly low carb (great for those on a dairy free keto diet!), but you can also make this recipe paleo as well with a few changes.
To make this dip paleo, make these swaps:
- Use a paleo mayo (such as Sir Kensington’s). Sir Kensington’s makes an egg-free mayo as well, but I don’t like the taste of it as much. If you can have eggs, you can use their regular paleo mayo.
- The Violife and Kite Hill (contains cashews) cream cheese brands are pretty close to paleo, however if you something even more natural, you can also make your own cream cheese out of cashews.
- The Violife feta is pretty close to paleo. Most recipes for homemade dairy free feta cheese call for tofu, so that’s a no-go if you’re paleo or have soy allergies.
