Healthy Surprise Starter Box

I think I am in snacker heaven!

I am a big snacker person (to a fault) and I get exited when I find new {healthy} snacks and goodies that are allergy-friendly. The health food industry is booming these days! There are so many great new health food and allergy-friendly companies out there using innovative recipes and responsible resources, it can be hard to keep up with all of them.

Healthy Surprise Starter Box

If you love trying new snacks, than you might enjoy a monthly snack subscription box like Healthy Surprise. The Healthy Surprise Box is a monthly snack box that curates healthy, full-size snacks from reputable companies, like Hail Merry, Health Warrior, and Bare Fruit. The Healthy Surprise Box is very allergy friendly: every box is:

  • Natural
  • Vegan
  • Soy free
  • Gluten free
  • Some snacks are organic, kosher, raw, and Paleo, and Healthy Surprise avoids snacks that have corn and grains

Some of the items do contain nuts, or have been manufactured with nuts, so you will want to read each label carefully if you or your family have tree nut or peanut allergies.

Healthy Surprise Starter Box

I got to try the February Starter Box, and I LOVED it! I was able to eat everything in my box except the Beanitos (legumes don’t like me and the flavoring contained yeast), which is quite an amazing feat!

Many of the snacks contained nuts or were made in a facility with nuts, so my children could only eat a couple things because of their peanut and tree nut allergies.

If you are looking for a new, fun way to try out healthy snack foods, than Healthy Surprise is something to check out! I was very impressed with the box and the fact that everything is carefully picked to ensure they meet the Healthy Surprise standards. It gave me a chance to find some new companies that I love, too!

The boxes come printed with healthy mantras!

I loved the Healthy Surprise Box – the only downside is the potential cost of the boxes if you are on a budget: the starter box is regularly $33 + shipping. I was curious to see if the Starter box provided all of the promised servings and retail value, so I broke down the contents of the box I received by servings (listed on the packages) and the average retail prices (from internet sources). Here’s the breakdown:

  • Bare Fruit Crunchy Cinnamon Apple Chips, 1.69 oz: 2 servings, $2.50
  • Sea Sprinkles Seaweed Snack Clusters, 1.75 oz: 5 servings, $5.59
  • Caveman Crunch, 1 oz: 1 serving, $2
  • Sacred Heart Mylk Chocolate Heart, 1.44 oz: 2 servings, $6.99
  • Beanitos, 1.25 oz: 1 serving, $1
  • Hail Merry Chocolate Macaroons 1.75 oz: 2 servings, $2.50
  • Hail Merry Orange Cranberry Grawnola, 1.5 oz: 1 serving, $2.99
  • Health Warrior 100 Calorie Chia Bar, 0.88 oz: 1 serving, $3
  • Gopal’s Raw Brownie, 2 oz: 1 serving, $2.69
  • Gopal’s Savory Pumpkin Seed Sprouties, 2 oz: 2 servings, $1.98
  • 2 Righteously Raw Bite Size Chocolate Bars, .35 oz each: 2 servings, $1.70 (2 x $0.85)

Total Servings: 20
Total =estimated retail price of contents: $32.94

This box delivered the promised number of servings for the starter size box (16-20) and the retail value is actually what the box costs without shipping. If you buy larger boxes, the shipping is waived.

Bottom Line: Healthy Surprise is a great idea to try if you are disciplined to stretch the snacks out over the entire month. Otherwise, it can be a little expensive  if you eat the entire box in just 2 days 🙂

Healthy Surprise Box Info and Recipes

The February Starter box even came with pink tissue paper, a raw chocolate heart by Sacred Chocolate (which was incredibly delicious!), and a cute card to celebrate Valentine’s Day! The box also had info about Healthy Surprise and 2 healthy recipes to try: Quick and Easy “Creamy” Pesto Pasta, and Cake Batter Ice Cream. Definitely a fun thing to find in your mailbox!
